Getting to Africa
There is no dream more exotic than escaping the hum-drum of city life
to go wild on an exciting African adventure. The culture and traditions
of Egypt or Morocco, exhilarating wildlife safaris in South Africa,
luxury resorts in the Gambia or Kenya, or maybe the beautiful beaches
of Mozambique; there is such a variety of differing locations to enjoy.
Despite the beauty and majesty of this unique continent the vast distances
involved mean that travelling to Africa can be fraught with complications
and expense; however there are a few basic rules that can be followed
to obtain reasonable priced fares and simplify your travel plans.
No matter how you plan to travel, try to book your tickets as far
in advance as possible, especially if planning to travel during busy
seasons such as Christmas. Travelling by air is often cheaper when
flying indirect via a major Europe city, particularly when travelling
via ex-colonies; for example if Namibia is your destination then Frankfurt
offers the most numerous flights or fly via Paris when travelling
to West Africa. It is also a good idea to use regional hubs wherever
possible as flights through these will be cheaper and allow you to
pick up a reasonably priced local flight to your final destination.
So fly into South Africa and then grab a budget flight to Zambia,
Botswana, Madagascar or Namibia. Another option is to fly through
Dubai as Emirates offers fantastic deals to destinations such as Johannesburg,
the Seychelles, Uganda, Tanzania and Mauritius.
Visiting Africa by sea is far less common than arriving by air but is
gaining in popularity. Although a long trip, especially is travelling from
Southampton rather than taking a fly-cruise option, cruising to Africa
allows for a unique adventurous experience of a number of different
African destinations combined with the many facilities of a luxury cruise
liner. There are several companies offering this type of excursion. An
example itinerary offered by Ocean
Village Cruises would be to travel via the Suez Canal stopping at a
variety of ports including Alexandria, travelling down to the Indian
Ocean, stopping at Mombasa to experience a Kenyan safari. Further stops
may include Zanzibar, Durban, Cape Town, Namibia, Luanda, Dakar, the
Canaries and Morocco. Africa offers one of the world`s most diverse
collection of destinations and a once in a lifetime opportunity to
experience everything from ancient wonders in Egypt to Kenya`s magnificent
natural beauty.
